Hey Chris,
I bumped into Mark when he was here in the Philippines. Handed him a couple tiny calling cards. Hope he gets to hand one to you. He said he'd probably see you next week. I might drop by December, maybe we can kick it then.

Happy Friday Chris,
It's Donato's foster daughter...he adopted her when she was 13 and now she's a bright 20 year old interning with Tarina. Really wonderful.

Hope you and the lovely lady are well! x

i like big butts and i cannot lie...
okay ... i don't but ... i like kim k. and as much as i'd love for that to have rhymed ... it fucking didn't. oh well.

and although i started off about big butts ... nicole does NOT have a big butt..

seriously, love this girl.
though.

moreover ... it was great seeing most of the people i missed seeing whilst taking a "vegas hiatus." except for my interior-designer-friend who pussed-out and stayed home all weekend and gave me shit for not having a normal eating schedule. ;)

whilst on the subject of big butts...

kim was papping on the red carpet. girl on the left is/was a cheetah girl. i vaguely remember what a cheetah girl is/was but ... fuck me if i remember.

nice, though.

same as kim. such a sweetheart.

coming to a myspace near you soon. ;)

perhaps.

people love themselves some kim.

the no-flash ambient versian at f/1.4. ;)

hollywood was in fine form as usual.

lotsathatshitgoingaround.

which makes girls do that ... so that some random black dude can post it up on myspace. ;)

or ... they could have heard that "i kissed a girl" song and just "got into it."

dunno.

even after all of the problems, which, now, seem like a small bump in the road, this place is always packed.

another reason to use fast glass, mildly fast iso and a steady fucking hand ...

you don't get this shit with flash...

she loved this.

and as a sidenote ... as much trouble as the vegas media reported ... they never ever resorted to this kind of shit...

greg and i have always been good ... same with judy ... but ... i mean ... i hope they didn't pay this fuck more than like ... a free bottle ... of smirnoff.

perhaps they're expecting really desperate girls from the midwest or ... a huge canadian contingent coming in this weekend.

do they know the demographic which reads perez? let's see ... do hot girls read perez? um, no. not at all. do ... perhaps ... less than attractive hater-jealous-girls read perez? perhaps yes. do guys?

um, right.

so ... you have perez host ... and you know "hot girls don't give a rat's ass" that an overweight self-important wannabe with like 14 minutes left on his popularity countdown ... what kind of girls will come?

what kind of guys will be like "yeah, perez is hosting!"

when one of the guys in the group will say, "isn't he gay?"

which another fratboy from michigan will say, "is it gay night there?"

and they will go somewhere else to spend their money.

one can say many things about the "people i know and have worked for in sin city" but what they can't say ... is that they're stupid. ;)

by the way ... fucking perez had this hot topic launch of some really amazingly shitty shirts. and 7 people showed up to some launch. fuck you, you loser.

funny thing is ... the guy thrives on negative attention.

ever heard of salah?

i haven't. then again, my urban game is admittedly "a bit off."

i know most of the old school references but ... these days ... there's just too many of them.

kinda like gossip blogs on the web. ;)

nicole and the pussycat dolls did a "surprise" show and ... well ... they did a great job.

they appeared to have done a good job. i wear earplugs. visually, i liked what i saw.

i know.

say whatever you'd like.

love shooting into the lights. i thought the lighting guy did a nice job.

they hardly ever do.

what "looks dramatic" is usually shit on a sensor, film or even on video.

only one pair of the red soles. worn by nicole, of course.

was happy with where i stood. a 250lb man and a fucking rope separated me from ... kind of a lot of fans who were way too close. way closer than i enjoy. i like big metal barricades and lotsa big security people.

seriously, people are fucking stupid.

and then add the fact they've never seen a celebrity.

add some alcohol.

and ... well ... not pretty.

nicole was pretty, though. always is.

not only ... she's very sweet, too ... in a real way.

and ya' know what? she and her 'dolls ... honestly ... love performing.

and its very nice shooting people who honestly have talent rather than "just a personality."

honestly, i knew there were four or five of them but i only really knew nicole and knew of lisa ... they're all pretty damn nice.

as is dj casanova. he likes to do samantha ronson poses. ;)

without the finger, of course.

i don't think miss wyatt likes the camera much. right?

and i believe i was right about which photo would go where. those who know what i'm talking about ... they know.

introverted little landscape gear-bators would and will never.

;)

perhaps even those who love fake bokeh layers. ;) sorry, couldn't resist. ;)

perhaps later this week ... i'm going to rant about some common denomonators about "those who review gear" on the internet. seems like they're all "landscape guys," have or had a background in engineering ... and ...

would love to know if they've ever been represented by a stock agency. ;)

betcha they haven't. not only ... but i believe they attract their own genre.

anyway ... i've gotta eat. i'm hungry. i'm thinking vietnamese.

hope you all had much more sleep than i did in the past few days.

i wish i could do all of my selects with aperture. i remember how much time i spent in the past going from photomechanic to photoshop and sometimes back to photomechanic and now ... one stop shopping. just wish my machine were a bit faster. ;)

cheers from the ever-warm l.a.!

Great pictures of a B- party showing the illustrious VIP people...
The Pez guy looks like a Memphian wanna be rock star..
we have them here too.
Nothing more hilariously (down here)funny than watching a teenage girl in a VERY short skirt trying to walk sexy in heels(bright orange, mind you)with too little pratice...
With her parents in tow no less!
Brings a smile to my face every time.
God has a sharp sense of humor after all.
The Pez man's desire for fame isn't quite up to the challenge of the incline methinks.
Stop by my DA spot and the Uber for some comment on what's posted
Time allowing,of course.
Not too sharp a knife please.
Best to the C,J,and all.

ahh the wonderful world of entertainment!

i hope you will always make the photos that you think are cool despite knowing that they probably won't get published!

that "i kissed a girl" song is dope!!!

nice job on the photos- as usual! it's no surprise you get hired as much as you do!

and i need to buy a nice wiiide lens - i'm thinking about the 14-24/2.8 - for parties. the 24-70 is too tight for certain things especially since my bodies aren't full frame. :(

oh and i'm shooting your favorite band, the jonas brothers, tomorrow with george!! ;)

talk to you soon!!

I love big butts! And like Kim too... and love her video (won't say any more, I'll keep it clean ;) ). Funny about Katy Perry and myspace - so true. Those suitcase pimps that aren't paps but roam the trashy side of sunset with a video camera glued to their hands, harassing and molesting every girl they see - NOT FUCKING COOL! Same thing with the people in the club who act like they've never been out of the house before... my friend's cousin came to visit from college yesterday and she was like "omg! have you ever seen a celebrity?!?" and all i could think to say was, "um i don't understand the question?"

Great Shots my friend!!! I love big butts!!!! ha!!!
Dude!! Ran into Greg last night.... dude looks like one of Monkees. Ha!!!
Long hair, straightened, to look like.....?

Hit me up when you land, sahn!! ;)

thanks, brother! you do love big butts. man-designer-butts, of course, but butts nonetheless.

i saw a photo of him on wire. hmm...

he almost looked like someone trying to compensate for going bald ...

i will.

I like the ambient stuff..lovely... into the lights is fun!

Fauxkeh....ugh. I run into people on the forum who bask in their fauxkeh that took them hours and layers and masks and unsharp masks?.. and I'm always like.. why not get it in camera???!! And if you didn't, then chuck it and learn how!... they don't like me for that, but whatever.

Bought the 85mm f/1.4!! Yeayah! For my digi Nikon....getting a rangefinder soon, I swear! Thanks for the reference, again!

Perez poster was baaaaad.... yeah, I think I'd be anywhere but there!
Posted by Chris on
love shooting into lights. my favourite is this one http://cweeks.deviantart.com/art/Interpol-1-186742 54 ... because i like flares.

thing is ... they can't get it in-camera. even if most had a remotely true understanding of the principals of basic photography ... they'd still opt for the PS way. all good, though.

though, seriously, if i see one more multi-monochrome-layered b/w and yet with colour making it look hard ... jesus.

you'll love the 85! :)

um ... no one with any taste will go near that kind of "appeal to the lowest denominator of a very base crowd." ;)
Posted by cassie.a.c... on
Your pic' link reveals no image :-(

Yeah, we had to explain bokeh to some who already claim to be semi-professional the other day in a chat...ugh.

I love the 85!!!!!
Posted by Richard Po... on
Nice work! Love the crowd shots and shooter shot... I just like how the colors turned out. So busy busy is see!

Perez is a looser!

Hope you’re doing great!
Take care!
Posted by Chris on
thanks, mate! having come from the d1 nikon ... to now ... i mean ... the digital world has evolved so much ... making my "work life" much better ... not only ... but aperture and being able to work RAW files so flawlessly ...

perez is not big in montreal?

very well, mate.

hope the same for you! :)
Posted by Richard Po... on
The only way he’s getting big is on the scale.

Your pictures give me hope about digital photography :)

the no-flash ambient versian at f/1.4. - this looks great but these guys are a bit obtrusive! this one http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d41/weekschris/b log%201july2008/CMW20080701-622.jpg looks nice too.. don't know if this link thing works. anyway. good post as aways.

it worked!

glad you liked it!

cheers!

wow...not one word about wankerboy...ah but you had perez

must admit that i am impressed how well the images are retaining highlights...even when shot into the light...i always tend to blow highlights...and i cannot even blame the lens as i am using the 50/1.4 as well...
Posted by Chris on
tis true ... but ... i've been -- when sitting in traffic or in an airport or whenever -- thinking about the common denominator of the wank-class.

this is the deal ... digital is a lot like chrome. if it's overexposed, it's gone. so ... just shoot a half stop under what you may be thinking.

cheers to getting your highlights back! ;)

"i wear earplugs"

seriously? haha..
Posted by Chris on
and i blame dj a.m. for any future deafness.
Posted by Jeff on
hopefully this will be what perez needs to help him realize that it is time to start looking for a retail job somewhere. Not sure about that frat boy comment. if i dropped his name to any of my friends they would prob question who he is and how is he related to paris hilton... god damn im glad more people are starting to hate his trash
Posted by Chris on
he won't; he's way too full of himself.

sadly, the thing he really wants is something he'll never get.

what aren't you sure about regarding most frat boys? ;)

you should be happy your friends would have no idea who he is. that can't be said for mine so you got me there.

it's one thing to write about celebrities ... but i think i'd like to see more about "how they're more like us than different" in a completely non-obtrusive way, of course.

when he called a 13 year old girl a slut ... i was beyond disgusted. not only but this bitch stole my work for years and no one could do anything about it.

yeah ... he's a ... inside he knows what he is. it's that voice which doubts himself ... the one he listens to all of the time. ;)
Posted by Jeff on
lol the frat boy comment being that i dont think they would know who the hell he is.
Posted by - koga - on
YES! I've been missing the Perez commentary. Thanks as always for the view into a universe (Bizarro World?) that's so different from the one I normally live in.
Posted by Chris on
no worries. i just haven't said much about him lately.

yes, kinda bizarre but .. some live within it!

happy to provide the diversion!

as usual, my first port of call ofter a week away from the internet is your digital tome, and as usual, great stuff mate :D very much looking forward to the new compo, and thats a great idea with the history logging. why don't we also set up a monthly competition without prizes, just for bragging rights? and maybe not the usual categories, go for technical categories, something like that? oh, and i had you down for a take away bag full to the brim of arnold palmers cock-n-balls, ultimately ending in disappointment at the wilted covering and dried up filling, ahem ;)
Posted by Chris on
thanks, mate! a week away? damn. dunno if i could do that.

monthly without a prize? hmm...

nice choices of donuts for me. bastard! ;)

@obsidian: yep, indeed ... america and l.a. are really two different places. same with nyc.

that said ... perhaps xsmall clothes have a market in l.a. .. but ... everywhere else ... i'm not so sure.

I need my machine to be faster too.. that, and im running out of HD space... after i realized aperture stored all of my raw files, i found about 80gb of free space.. but now i only have 80 left.. (of ONLY 500)

Shit about perez made me laugh so hard! seriously, he deserved at least 8 people there! I think trying to sell XL clothing to a society of smalls and zero's (as in size) is a bad marketing plan ;)

Love the sets, as usual.. I love shooting into the light, i cant remember if i got that 'joy' from watching your work or not.. probably :)

Either way, thanks for the inspiration!
Posted by Chris on
disc space will always be an issue. try the raw files for the beast, mate.

um ... i think selling xl clothes is brilliant: have you seen america?

thanks, mate.

shooting into lights is rad! :)

happy to have been an inspiration!
