Hi Chris!! I'm finally back to Uber after my hard jobs far from home and the fast internet networks... I saw the street contest page and i hope i will be able to upload one of my "works"! in the last weeks I hanged out with my Yashica GSN with some Ilford rolls... now i'm waiting the prints delivery... and i hope to see some good stuff from them! Thank you very much for this contest! thanks to you and all the people that work in it! (sorry for my rude english)! Thanks!! Cheers!

Hey Chris,
I bumped into Mark when he was here in the Philippines. Handed him a couple tiny calling cards. Hope he gets to hand one to you. He said he'd probably see you next week. I might drop by December, maybe we can kick it then.

Happy Friday Chris,
It's Donato's foster daughter...he adopted her when she was 13 and now she's a bright 20 year old interning with Tarina. Really wonderful.

Hope you and the lovely lady are well! x

i'm no soccer mom.
i don't even drive a van. or a van which j and i call something no-so-nice. then again, we're not-so-nice sometimes. we kinda keep it to ourselves and a verbal banter.

the soccer mom thing will tie in.

in fact, i got some scans back last week. i even took some archive-negs in for some serious friggin' scanning! and it's so funny ... i'll remember making a deliberate photograph with one of the m's and look forward to seeing it. whilst it's kinda true with digi-stuff ... it's just different for me. i remember going for gelatto one night and seeing a photograph i wanted.

got one frame. i remember making more photos, though, which is odd.

guess i made them in my mind.

so ... very happy with the response to the new contest! how many people really need to ask, though, "what is street photography?" guess i'll have to address that but i just don't feel like it right now.

m doesn't feel like it either. ;)

this may be a photo of a well-known drummer and a world-famous d.j. but ... only j and i remember the conversation. priceless. really.

kinda makes me a loser but whatever. ;)

there's also this difference in looking at digital photographs and neg-scans i get back from the lab: almost always it seems like the digital is work and the scans are more of a recent history of mine and our lives. sometimes a month goes by between shooting and processing and scanning.

and even though it was a month ... it only feels like a minute ... except that a lot went on in that time.

there was at least a few airports involved, of course.

by the way ... the uber photography page ... is so much better than any i've seen. i remember back in the day when really feeble attempts were made to one elsewhere. this one, though, i visit once a day even though it has some line of clothing i'd probably never pay attention to. ;)

you see the most interesting things "in transit."

there was some kind of hungry desperation going on with this chick.

could have done a dyptich but i'm not creative enough. ;)

you always see the most interesting stuff from the back of a cab.

wonder how the penny slots treated homegirl.

the hallways there ... in the land of renewable broken dreams ... freak me out as well.

actually the sirens of t.i. freak me out the most.

i made one frame with my leica of nicole and the girls (the pussycat dolls).

like my friend thorsten said ... only leica lenses can do certain things. it's true.

even r lenses can. ;)

was walking through the venetian parking garage with my interior decorator friend and saw this. i liked it.

i think this was before i barked at someone in their face for not watching where they were going.

i'm not very nice to tourists. ;)

besides the friends and clients and restaurants ... vegas does give you something you don't get to see anywhere else on this planet.

octogenarians and penny slots.

hot slot action.

right, carlos?

and, yes, i saw a bald head on an airplane.

go figure.

honestly, i think it's almost like finding a fat person in a crowd. here in the u.s. i believe like 6/7 out of 10 are considered fat.

wonder how many are considered bald.

best photo ever.

some of the best vietnamese phood ever, too. ;)

look at the looks on the faces! the napolitano bitch liked this photo, too!

i love it when someone says "oh, take my picture." usually they're actresses. ;)

she's no actress.

thank god.

we were at the petersen auto museum. this is the bugatti. oh my.

not that i'd ever want one but ... damn they're beautiful.

just lounging next to an almost-priceless-car. once owned by the shah of iran back in the day.

a really cool way of displaying hot wheels cars. i only made a photo of a detail ... not the whole thing, though.

sorry.

there's always some dude doing exactly what this dude is doing ... whenever i go to a museum!

always.

remember the soccer mom title? this is where i got it "I ain't no soccer mom nor soccer dad. I'm a rockin' single salesman on a mission. thank you very much."

who the fuck puts that on their car?

only america.

like this douche bag, too. i'm sure he lives in orange county. fucking planet murder, as b would say. this guy's license plate says wymechp? why me california highway patrol? looser.

i'm sure he's in his best affliction or ed hardy.

i'm sure his pants are a bit too tight and a bit too embroidered.

i'm sure he's got a silver wallet chain.

and his wife or girlfriend or wife and girlfriend have fake tits.

he could live in calabasas, though.

m had his first vet's appointment.

and we went to an animal shelter to "help resolve a situation" for a neighbor's neglected dogs. so sad at this place ...

kinda like double-vision.

hopefully the girl connected to those feet takes home a new friend.

even though it's a cat. ;)

out of the like the 100 or so dogs we met ... only one was agressive.

love seeing pitbulls just want to be petted.

even though they're in a cage ... they still played, too...

they were both so nice.

such a cool looking dog.

him, too.

they all were in their own individual ways. i know ... there are some -- especially in this fucking town -- who think you're a lesser person if you buy a dog. whatever. j fostered over 10 dogs and provided 3 animals with a home. those dog-rescue-nazis who look down on someone who's researched a breed to make sure they're lifestyle-appropriate can go fuck themselves.

along with the people supporting the current administration trying to get birth control pills classified as a form of abortion. dumb motherfuckers.

mccain is such a fucking inept motherfucker.

he's just "bush-lite."

i totally think obama is a bolshevic ... but he's way better than mccain.

any pro-mccain comment will be deleted forthwith. ;)

and .. ya' know ... there are dogs at the pound who are used to getting excited when they see a human ... and tire of even getting up because no one will take them home...

hope someone found him a home.

this whole "take a picture of me thing" ... amazing.

funny how when you're wearing an audrey kitching shirt ... you don't want to show your face ... and ... anyone standing next to you tries to hide their face. audrey leaves even a spaniel perplexed.

what makes me laugh about the pageviews behind someone like audrey ... are demographics less than that of anime-myspace. ;)

glenn almost never looks at the camera for some reason.

there was an audrey kitching t-shirt on the wall; i'm sure that's what he was staring at. ;)

drivable -- or not-so-drivable-at-the-moment -- art. ;)

i love walking around and making photos. i'm sure many of you know that, though.

so funny reading someone's "photography site" and they say "it's not really about my photography." then ... if it isn't, mate, then why should we believe what you say about photography if your own photography sucks and ...

well ... i just don't understand anyone who says "do this" or "use that" when ... they don't know how to do that themselves.

forgot where i read it over the weekend but ... it was laughable.

do as i say not as i do.

because if you did ... you'd make hobbyist-looking test photos of birdfeeders. ;)

laughable, mate.

and kind of pathetic, too.

at least the people reading my blog can make photos. ;)

yeah, that walking-round with a camera thing i like so much ...

photographs are everywhere. and for some reason i'm kinda ocd about making one airport photo. dunno why.

the elliott smith wall. sad way to die that elliott.

another wall. love how a leica lens holds up shooting into the sun!

security. it's everywhere you want to be. ;)

isn't that the visa slogan?

probably one-in-the-same.

i love living in a city -- not that i can't find a photo in the countryside or 'burbs -- but there's so much to see in a city.

even if this city pisses me off every once in a while.

beautiful solitary moments in this fair city.

when it's being fair.

forgot this uber shot.

they love themselves some smooth jazz there. odd thing. who knew. perhaps it's just hipster-ironic?

always hipster-ironic at pho. always.

we actually waited in line this time.

hipsters need to eat, too. i guess. ;)

forgot the photo of cowboy, the vet front office girl's dog.

even made a street photograph in san diego!

i think i made one.

then again, i didn't walk 'round much there. hotel, work, hotel, car.

that was make when i was waiting for said car.

lotsa skulls at dos caminos in vegas. very nice restaurant, fyi.

and ... there was some street with some nice shutter drag so the water "looks right" ...

screwed down the aperture to like f/16 at a quarter second ... do that with an slr. ;)

and right behind me was that. :)

so much going on. i like this one full-viewed.

juxtaposed with a lonely hamburger stand on sunset ...

i've actually never seen anyone in here. they have such a great location.

dunno what j's foot and m have to do with bike whores, though.

many many many eastside-bike-riding whores to be sure. ;)

homey's always there selling whatever he's selling.

j thinks i should pay him some time.

how cute is sofia bush? she's nice, too ... which makes her a bit different than "all of the other pretty faces" in this town.

even the waiters have pretty faces.

our streets don't always look like that.

promise.

you'd think i was in europe, right? ;)

kidding.

spaniel is a travelling spaniel for sure.

love his little pedigreed breed-conforming profile. take that you peta-fucks. ;)

seems i was around a.m. a lot over the course of a couple weeks.

i didn't think the behind stage view was all that good. if a show is meant for an audience, i think being one of the audience is sometimes the best place to make a photo.

:)

wonder if he's actually dj'ing or picking songs to listen to on the way home. ;)

doggy daycare! ya' gotta love los angeles.

this one's actually pretty cool ... you can watch your dog on the internet during the day on one of their four webcams.

not that m will ever need that.

he's a travelling spaniel. :)

and soon to be a movie-dog-trick-performing-spaniel!

okay ... thanks again for the great response to the street photo contest! totally looking forward to seeing the entries!!!!!! :)

guess what? i'm hungry.

so ... i'm thinking i should eat.

hope everyone's week is going very well!

cheers from warm and pleasant los angeles!

p.s., yes, all of the preceding photographs were made with a leica mp or m6 and either a 35/1.4 or 35/2.0 3rd gen. :) think it's time i go out and make some more leica photos. just have to get j to not being paranoid of certain places. ;)

Great post, and great photos - I love looking at your film stuff. My favourites would be the gelateria, in transit, hotel hallway, and Vietnamese phood shot, but they are all interesting slices of life.
I couldn't believe that stuff about abortion, fucked up!

Love the rearview mirror shot of m. and the Europe trash comment.. ;)

You should make a book with all your airport photos.. I'd probably buy a copy.

yes, i do a lot more than write entries.

nice one mate!
that photo of the dog in the back of the cage is pretty depressing.
love that portrait of sofia bush and the one of j with m on her lap!

PS. what's sTR33t photography?!
Posted by Chris on
thank you!

that photo was very depressing to be sure. felt horrible for him.

what is street? no idea. someone asked me if they could do some conceptual photography and enter it. too funny. layer upon layer with all sorts of shit.

what don't people get that street is rooted in reality?

Took me some time to get around and really read your entry... and I'm happy I waited, these pictures are great Chris! Especially the one you love best with m and j! Just made me laugh... and then I saw the lonely dog in the cage... and that made me sad. Dogs, when they're sad... man do they ever look miserable!

That picture of Nicole is gorgeous and Sofia Bush. I just can't comment on all of them... I should but this would be endless. All I can say is thanks for posting them, it was a great pleasure to read and look at.

Hope you're doing great!
Have yourself a great weekend!
Take care!

thanks, mate! very happy you liked the entry!

and dogs ... they really do wear their hearts on their respective sleeves. sometimes, as you pointed out, and sadly so ... especially when they're not in an "ideal situation."

if you would comment on each, you'd get nothing else done during the day or night!

very well, thank you.

hope you are as well!

Dude, that was an awesome post - love seeing your film work SO much.

Also, have you tried out Silver Efex with Aperture? Just been playing around with the demo... and the black and white I get from it is SO much nicer than any BW I get from curves/levels/saturation/channels/whatever that I get in either PhotoSlop or Aperture.... take a look man, you might like.
Posted by Chris on
thanks, mate!

i haven't. just use the monochrome mixer they have, which isn't so bad. in ps cs i'd use channel mixing, basically, but i'm gonna check out that plugin you mentioned.

thanks!
Posted by Josh on
No worries my friend - I figured you'd porbably appreciate it. Channels was pretty good, but personally, I think this is better.

Still, hoping to see more of the REAL film work you do ;)

Yo. This might be my fave blog of yours. It has an ambling quality to it and an interesting canine through-line. It makes me want to get a Leica. My dad actually has a quiver of the old ones. He took amazing pictures until stopped by a medical condition. Anyhow, way 2 represent.
Posted by Chris on
thanks! it did amble because i wrote it in two parts: one before i went to bed and one after i woke up! you should get one of the old leicas from your dad; i'm sure he'd be stoked for you to use one. the old ones make just as beautiful photos as the new ones!

happy you enjoyed the material!

Love the photos of the animals up for adoption.

I was doing some work for my school at an animal shelter here in the Philippines (PAWS, Philippine Animal Welfare Society) and I'm not surprised at how different things are over there. The shelter I visited was not very big, had over 70 dogs and 150 cats up for adoption. Amazing how these animals seem smarter and more energetic than most dogs that have owners...
Posted by Chris on
'twas pretty sad.

i think they'd love to have owners! good owners!

thanks, mate! and ... i liked that one, too! :)

Great photos, I really don't know why I tell you you have great photos, I know that you know they are great ;) I guess being a fan of Mr. Bush Lite is not high on your list either :) ha ha ha! America is so fucked in the upcomming elections, I don't even want to think about what the country will be like in 5 more years.

6/7 out of 10 people are fat, you need to be in Michigan, we truly are the fatest state. Every time I turn around there is some fat fatty stareing at me like I'm a food source. :)

I'm working on getting some accetable photos for the contest. Hopefully I will have some before it ends.

Oh! J looks great as always, best wishes to you all in LA la land.
