Happy Friday Chris,
It's Donato's foster daughter...he adopted her when she was 13 and now she's a bright 20 year old interning with Tarina. Really wonderful.

Hope you and the lovely lady are well! x

puppy papping....
when you see faces like this, though ...

not want to make photos? so ... this blog will be f-bomb-free. why? well ... there are perhaps others reading this which ... well ... i'd prefer just to have a more polite tone.

i'm allowed a vacation. and, honestly, these dogs with the most amazing faces of the entire dog world (sorry c) ... i don't think they ... would approve. when you hold one of their little muzzles cupped in our hand you'll understand. i have never seen a breed so happy to be happy. tails always wagging -- a breed standard. we've met quite a few of these pups and not one of them has been anything but amazingly happy.

on the way "out further east" we saw something odd, though.

i thought it was odd. i kinda dig the stencil art all over los angeles. i know it's technically graffiti but ... well ... yeah ... i'll have double-standards. at least it's creative and there was thought put into it.

puppies.

i saw this pan and thought it was better in b/w. yes, i shot the m3 with the nocti as well but ... well ... that's at the lab.

even whilst sleeping they're just so chill.

okay ... a word about dog shows. that last one i went to ... there were many breeds representing. at this one it was only for cavalier king charles spaniels. the people we have met as representative owners and breeders are just like you or i or our parents or grandparents. there was something which i've seen at other dog shows which wasn't present here. i equate it to some creepiness factor. everyone here ... they LOVE THEIR DOGS. THEY LOVE THEIR BREED.

not in a sick way.

i think when you have a little dog that only wants to please you and be attentive to you and spend time playing, walking, sleeping or on your lap ... i think they deserve a certain kind of people to be their guardians.

i don't like the word owner.

not in a peta-freak-kinda-way, though.

and interestingly ... these people like people which a lot of peta-save-the-world-kinda-people are ... quite lacking.

homey on the right lost an eye when he was a pup but he doesn't think anything is wrong. so sweet.

if you walk by and don't give one of these sweet pups some attention, i think they think something is wrong.

not in an actress-i-need-attention-sorta-way, though.

;)

pro-puppy-papper. ;)

i watched and it seemed as though he perhaps lost his passion.

his helper didn't ... she knew all of the tricks...

actually, she's playing flute. ;)

those faces. like really. it's (f-bomb deleted) ridiculous. RIDICULOUS. rotton j and bombarding me day and night (i mean this) with photos of this breed and random facts.

besides holding their respective muzzles in your hand ... feeling their ears. i mean. it shouldn't be legal.

could the breeders be a certain type of crack dealer?

there i am ... being all polite and i bring crack dealers into the mix. i'm incorrigible.

i know.

they like their crates. i know it looks whatever but even c likes her little portable nest.

den.

dunno.

they even like their crates in monochrome. ;)

i mean really.

they look like paintings.

i honestly don't think there is any alternative in researching a breed than going to their specialty shows and talking to people. i mean ... i do NOT understand people who buy from puppy mills or from pet stores. yeah, that means you oprah.

i've never thought that accepting a new member to the family was a small thought or decision. it's big.

unlike a couple neighbors. i swear i'm going to video tape the way they treat their dogs. horrible. don't worry ... we've complained to the proper people.

but ... i don't think anything replaces research.

and i think it's an amazing epiphany when you actually just know ... yes ... this is the breed which really works for my lifestyle and what i can provide.

seriously. those faces.

even whilst a groom and blow out.

we met this amazing woman at the last show we attended. i am still amazed at how she went out of her way to help us and introduce us to people which could provide the perfect dog.

i know cesar thinks that dogs are dogs but these dogs are different.

ever seen this breed on "dog whisperer"? i haven't.

and i've seen every episode.

there's some good t.v.

and ... ya' know ... if you're going to tell me here or privately that we "already have a pure bred" and "we should be rescuing." well ... j has rescued and successfully fostered more dogs than 99% of the people reading this will. she's done her part.

if she wants to own a breed which based on her exhaustive research is perfect, i think she probably deserves to have a pup.

this is a ruby. we love rubies. we love them all but ... ah ... a ruby. and dealing with only one colour of hair. ah ...

see how attentive the one in the center is? they love their owners.

actually ... they love everyone. they have no way to perceive how anything or anyone could ever hurt them.

we should all learn from that trait.

this judge was from sweden. seemed like a pretty good guy to me. didn't talk to him but watched him work.

he loves this breed, too.

he can't be all bad. he did like really compact skinnier dogs, though. seemed to me, at least! :)

i love this moment between handler and judge.

and the line of blenham -- brown and white -- fading into dof.

he was like "you can come over and pet me." such an amazing little breed.

guess the english know something. ;)

not much about colonization but ... dog breeding? perhaps.

they don't mind doing anything. chillin'.

watchin' the show.

and ... ah ... how this little guy fades into f/1.2.

guess i'll have to wait for the f/1.0. ;)

kissed by an angel (not my words). that little mark is so cool.

they're all so unique yet ... they all have that same trait ... wagging tail ... best personality out there.

tropical cav...

j liked this one, too. :)

love love love those ears.

she was tired.

so attentive.

some might say needy -- not like an actress, of course -- but i'd beg to differ.

9 month old cutie...

her name is paris. much more appropriate than my other-little-friend-paris. much cuter. sorry. and ... much nicer. ;)

the guy in the ring is another longtime cav owner-breed.

all-in-all ... i'm so happy our research into the breed included meeting people behind the cavalier king charles spaniels ... they're just as cool as the breed itself!

and then ... on the side of the freeway ... we saw that the robot overlords are on overtime in los angeles...

i dunno what matt would think.

everything was selected and edited with aperture. i hate having to use photoshop for anything now.

so ... yeah ... crazy weekend.

hope yours was more restful than ours!

cheers from the socked in l.a. sunny-as-hell-if-hell-is-sunny-la! then again, i just heard it's snowing in denver.

thank you so much patty; YOU ARE THE BEST!

and, martin, i so so so totally meant nothing to offend you. in fact, i only recommended the book with your stuff in it to help someone. ;)

a tease as to something i've been playing with over the past couple days...
or ...

or ...

was fun playing on the streets!

We have those Frankenstein stencils here too, along with some great ones of Bush and Bill Clinton too. They were really popular with the alt-art crowd here about two or three years ago. There's a great life-size stencil on a building Downtown of a Stormtrooper grabbing his bits and throwing a double-viking.
Posted by Chris on May 15, 2008 6:18 PM
love those stencils. haven't seen bush or clinton ones, though.

send me a photo of that giant one! :) if you see it and you have a camera.

wait ... you always have a camera.

'cause you're a stud. ;)

Posted by Chris on May 14, 2008 6:12 PM

weren't any pups dyed pink ; )

I really dig the blurry depth in your pix! Do you do that in post or it's the lens?
Either way, very nice my friend : )

Posted by Chris on May 14, 2008 12:58 PM
i faved that photo!!!!!! they're popular in the netherlands????

their faces are amazing!!!

how long have you had yours???

we're in the process of acquiring one... it's a long thing here in the states.

love your pup! more photos!!!!!
Posted by doorenroos... on May 14, 2008 1:11 PM
mine's 9 years old already. he's not the tiny version like the ones that make it to the beauty contest shows. but i like the bigger ones more than the really small ones. their really easy going, except when there are ladies around ;)

and nah, not really popular in the netherlands. luckely (now it looks like my doggie is even more exclusive :P) a few years after we bought ours, a famous politicion (who got murdered) had two king charles too, and made the brend a little popular.

good luck with getting one of your own!

Never been a huge fan of tilt-shift - I've seen loads on flickr that were faked using photoshop and I became a bit numb after a while. I like what you've done so far though - not predictable. I really like the three palm trees.
The dogs are as cute as ever. If we didn't live in a one bed flat on the fourth floor with no one in through the day I'd take one home!
Thanks for brightening my day.
Cheers
Posted by Chris on May 14, 2008 1:00 PM
i don't look at the faked bullshit. let them eat cake. ;)

i like trying to make toy people look like they're living in their toy world. kinda fun.

you could still own one of these dogs, though.

you're welcome! :)

One of the reasons I don't have a dog is because I don't have the time and I'm not going to give into selfish indulgence for the feelings of him/her. My neighbors have, um 5 dogs.. the kicker is they are all small, wonderful little lap dogs but they get treated like pitbulls. They all get herded outside every two hours and left out there for at least a half an hour no matter the weather and it's just an insane barking fest, like, "why did you just leave us here, please come back!" sad and wakes up my napping babies sometimes, seriously. Their owner never takes them for walks or plays with them outside.. nothing; like their fixtures of some kind. What happened to man's best friend? If you're going to have a dog, make him/her a part of the family and spend time with them. Anyway you know this already..

Love the new plays with DOF, especially the crosswalk perspective shot! Nice!

I like that really dark chocolate pup with the golden eye markings! So sweet!

Great post! -Cassie
Posted by Chris on May 14, 2008 1:05 PM
your neighbors are assholes. that's no way to treat a dog. we have a neighbor like this ... and we have video friggin' evidence for "a hearing" coming up. ;)

no walks? thats horrible.

and they wake up your babies????? that really sucks. you should videotape them somehow and complain. make a log. nuisance laws are there for a reason. i'm sure your county must have them.

that was one of my faves! thanks, love.

happy you enjoyed it, love! :)

Love those dogs... I’ve seen a couple at the dog park and they’re always so sweet!

Nice little effect you have going on in the lest few shots! Can’t wait to see more :)

Take care!

@doorenroosje: nine! wow! i like ALL cav's ... big or small or whatever.

they're amazing. over here you really have to find the proper breeder as we're avoiding a puppy mill kinda person at all costs. we're on a wait-list for a little boy. a ruby or a black and tan!

be careful when the ladies are around? hmm...

my lady is the one who got me obsessed with them.

thank you so much for sharing photos of quint!!!!!!

they like swimming?
Posted by Chris on May 14, 2008 1:06 PM

thanks, mate ... there are more coming!

you, too!
